I’m trying to find the right option to display the estimated time to final destination on the MFD of my G1000. The only way I have found to get this is when I’m direct to the destination. I would like to have it displayed at all times, even when I have multiple waypoints between where I’m at and the final destination. Does anyone know what option I need to put on the MFD command bar?

Here’s one we were discussing the other day.

While doing a VOR approach I personally feel it is safer to have the GPS as my primary CDI and have the bearing pointer tuned to the VOR. By using the GPS on the CDI I get better accuracy as well as distance off course. I can also cross check this off the bearing pointer so it is redundant.

Now back in late 05 early 06 when the software upgrades for the bearing pointers were being released we had a debate about the legality of doing this. I was told by our Chief Pilot at the time if you’re doing a VOR approach your primary source of navigation must be tuned to the VOR (who’s to say the bearing pointer is not my primary source of navigation?). They would not allow us to use nor teach this method.

I’m curious to get others thoughts on this. Also I’ve looked fairly extensively for a definitive answer on the legal side and can’t find one.

Fire away.
